Have Gun- Will Travel

Friday, March 5, 2010

This week has been consumed with my quilting projects. Usually while working on quilts, I watch quite a bit of TV. Romantic movies I've seen a hundred times...anything Jane Austin, While You Were Sleeping, Moonstruck, and Groundhog Day. The list could go on and on, but you know the ones I'm talking about, don't you? I can work and not have to look at the screen all the time because I have the scenes memorized. It makes the time pass more easily. I'm entertained while working.

We joined Netflicks this past year. I love the instant download offered by this company. No waiting for something to arrive in the mail. Now I go through their list of instant downloads and pick what I want to watch and just turn it on!

I found the series of Have Gun-Will Travel on Netflicks. What joy!!! Now I can watch all the programs I used to cry to be able to see. I must have been about 6 or 7 years old when this series first started. The show came on after Gunsmoke and right at my bedtime. My parents would let me see it sometimes....but not often. I remember crying one time and they finally relented. (I told my Mom about this and NOW she says she's sorry they didn't let me watch it.)

So....I'm working and my husband Dave walks into the room.
"What are you watching now?" he asks me.
"Have Gun- Will Travel" I reply.
"You have got to be kidding me."
"No, I used to cry to see this show....and I'm catching up on all of the episodes I missed. My childhood revisited. I don't even mind the black and white." I tell him.

Then it hit me. My whole life has been centered around searching for my Paladin. I'm shocked to say the least. I had no idea why I've been attracted to men with dark hair and a mustache. Now all is revealed.

All he needs is a calling card, horse, hat and his gun.

The above picture is one that many have written to me about. This cotton trim is one I used on the Bird in Hand pincushion. I over dyed it with tan Rit dye. It's original purpose is for knitting. But I loved the frayed look and thought it would make a great trim.

Until later dear friends....back to sewing

  1. I have 'The Duchess' and 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age' queued up for my stitching day today. I know what you mean about watching things over and over. I love to do that! :)

I recently completed the free gift design you posted, Souvenir de France. Is there an email address where I could send you a picture?

    Thanks! :)

  2. Oh, I love Netflix! I recently discovered it after I fractured my knee and was stuck on my tail for 8 weeks (so sad about the housework) but I did lots of stitching and watched lots of movies with just the click of a button.

Thanks again for all the wonderful, wonderful goodies. It was like Christmas when I opened my box and pulled out gift after gift! Springbreak arrives in just 8 days and I can't wait to do some stitching. So many have already started stitching the new BBD charts and it's fun to watch their progress.

Enjoy your weekend and your Netflix.

  3. Oh how I loved 'Have Gun Will Travel'. I guess I'm a few years older than you because I was old enough to stay up to watch it. I love oldmovies and tv shows, so I set timers to record my favorites each time they come on. Right now I'm watching 'Shadow of the Thin Man'. Makes great company while I'm sewing.

  4. I could not watch the Olympics and stitch at the same time. I'm like you in that I'd rather have something on that I don't have to pay close attention to! I love the old romantic comedies and I used to watch Westerns with my dad!

  5. Alma - this post was close to my heart - we have been watching some old westerns lately on the Starz or Encore cable channel for westerns - The funny thing about Paladin (his name escapes me) is that he spent his retired years in St Augustine and was right across the street from my great aunts house which we visited often. We used to be crowded around the window to catch a glimpse of him - he was a very private man and my aunt would not allow us to galk at him from her yard. She said he just wanted to be left alone. Please pop on my blog if you get a chance and see my special post about my memories of St Augustine as I just lost a special cousin from St Augustine. http://wooley-thoughts.blogspot.com/ Thanks for the memories! 6. Isn't Netflix wonderful? I don't remember that series, but yes, I can see why you like men of a certain type. lol! Having the TV on while sewing is great! I love listening to books too!

  7. Oh my goodness I used to watch the show too growing up! My husband always wonders how I can watch the same movies over and over but like you, I am mostly listening and I don't have to worry about knowing what is going on. "Chocolat" and "Finding Neverland" are frequently on when I'm in a Johnny Depp mood LOL.

  8. I'm a Gunsmoke girl myself....Sheriff Matt Dillon and Miss Kitty! I wanted them to marry and live happily ever after. I love to watch anything Mercahnt/Ivory while stitching. The music is so beautiful. Out of Africa is also a great stitching movie......I know it by heart.

  9. We were big "Have Gun - Will Travel" fans, too, (my brother got the gun & holster set for Christmas!). Years later, my dad built an airplane and at an air show in Florida, he met Richard Boone. What a thrill! I'm glad you are finally getting to watch the shows. Don't make like that anymore....

  12. I know just what's it like, I record all the old episodes of NCIS and Midsomer Murders especially for the times my husband is working and I'm home alone stitching, and I can stitch and listen to the TV, rather then having to try and watch something new.

  13. I was a Bonanza fan. My family went to my grandparent's every Sunday nite to watch it in color, one of the first color programs. It was amazing. Now, I've had my fill of the reruns, but one can never let go of something that was so huge in their childhood. I still love it, hokey as it is!

  14. We are watching all the Have Gun will Travel reruns now too - starts in late afternoon til..... hubby is retired. I love all the Gunsmokes and recently saw an updated western of all the old guys on it. Cheyenne had become a little pungy, especially for his height! I have not seen a Texan rerun however, that is who I was going to marry when I grew up - LOL - he later played the bad guy in everything - oh well!!!
BTW - if you have not gone to Pat Sloan's corner to see her attempt at being a copy-cat - you need to - she's a hoot.

  16. Wasnt' that a wonderful show. There were so many good ones back then and they just seem to repeat the same ones over and over on TV instead of showing those. Some old shows are lost for good becasue of improper storing. So sad!

    Happy Stitching and Quilting!

  17. I couldn't read all of the label attached to The Tatters. Is that available in the Kansas City area of via internet? I'd love to get ahold of some.

  19. Wow, you married Palladin's brother! cool! I too know what you're saying about old movies. I've been renting old Fred Astaire and Kate Hepburn movies from Netflix.
I loved the westerns on TV, but then, I grew up with the Cisco Kid (my first love), Roy Rogers (my 2nd love) and Gene Autry - how could I not love westerns!
